Meet the Composer, Raven Chacon—NOW festival
Hosted at Huntington Recital Hall at Capital University for a special Bexley Public Library conversation with Pulitzer Prize–winning composer, performer, and installation artist Raven Chacon—interviewed by Christopher Purdy, early morning host of WOSU Classical 101, and host/producer of Front Row Center, Music in Mid-Ohio, Concerts at Ohio State, and the Columbus Symphony broadcast series. This conversation explores Chacon’s music, Pulitzer Prize, and creative life, followed by an audience Q&A. A Diné artist from Fort Defiance, Navajo Nation, Chacon earned degrees from University of New Mexico and California Institute of the Arts and was a member of Postcommodity (2009–2018), with work presented internationally and held in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Museum of the American Indian, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In 2022, he received the Pulitzer Prize in Music for Voiceless Mass; his opera Sweet Land, co-composed with Du Yun, was named 2021 Opera of the Year by the Music Critics Association of North America. You can learn more here: https://spiderwebsinthesky.com/ NOW Festival The annual NOW Festival at Capital University is one of the most comprehensive and diversified celebrations of contemporary art and its creators in the Midwest. Since its founding in 1987, the Festival has one simple yet extremely important mission: to expose the Central Ohio community to international, national, and regional living artists and their work, exposing, exploring, and discussing the role of music in contemporary society. The concert series is eclectic in nature, covering a diverse range of compositional and performance styles. https://www.capital.edu/student-life/arts-and-culture/annual-events/now-festival/ Filmed on Capital University Campus in Huntington Recital Hall

Requiem | Malcolm Cochran
Short highlight video for Malcolm Cochran and Columbus Landmarks. Short video Documentation highlight of Requiem by Malcolm Cochran, Columbus, OH, 2022. (Highlights/Video.1) - "Requiem merges the mundane and discarded—used refrigerators repurposed as coffin-like sculptures—with live and recorded performances of ancient, classical, and contemporary a cappella songs without words performed by eight female vocalists, joined by members of the former church choir. By conjuring images and emotions associated with genocides, Requiem’s "enigmatic objects and transcendent music have added resonance in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently the war in Ukraine." How One Capital Class Sparked a Civil Rights Movement | Summer Scholars at Capital University
When Capital University student Isabelle Hanning ’26, history and literature major, began researching a story from the university’s past, she uncovered a powerful connection between two defining moments in history, WWII and the civil rights movement. Her Summer Scholars project, From Buchenwald to Montgomery: The Ripple Effects of Compassion in Social Justice Leadership at Capital University, traces how Capital professor Karl H. Hertz’s experiences liberating the Buchenwald concentration camp shaped his teaching and how one of his students, Robert Graetz, carried those lessons into the Montgomery bus boycott alongside Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. Read more: https://www.capital.edu/about/capital-stories/from-buchenwald-to-montgomery-hanning-explores-the-power-of-education-and-compassion/

Silver Jacket
Video performance for my 1st solo Exhibition, MOTOR SKILLS October 8th - 29th 2016 at 934 Gallery in Columbus, Ohio. Silver Jacket | 2016 | Installation and performance material Flex Duct is used for our human comfort with heating and cooling in houses and industrial businesses. Breathing, claustrophobia, unusual behavior. I wanted to create hypnotizing, manipulative movements with the strong texture and pattern of flex duct. Giving the flex a voice, or another form of movement and purpose. Having the material on the floor rather, and other uncommon places. The performance expressing breathing, something controlling the mind, an almost sexual experience that shouldn't be watched, but its hard to look away.

TENDING BREADTH, Performance art film
Conceptualization, Installation, Costumes | Jacklyn Brickman Art direction, Videography, Editing | Dean Taylor Special thanks to OSU Biological Sciences Greenhouse | David Snodgrass and Emily Yoders-Horn Tending Breadth is a collaborative film by Jacklyn Brickman and Dean Taylor. Our Western view of nature is not based on what nature really is, but what we have formed it into. Tending Breadth amplifies this synthetic quality through material, play and imagination. Inflatable, mylar spheres expand and contract their breadth in a movement of timed inflation, a mimesis of human breathing. Two suited figures move through the space tending. An experiment in the Biological Sciences Greenhouse at The Ohio State University, the breath and breadth of these walnuts and the duties performed by their attendees, entangle science fiction and motions of caring to question what cultivating a planet from a single black walnut might look like; a juncture in the progression of a young celestial body; a speculative future that ponders the evolution from plant to planet.
